"Tradition, Type 1" 1st edition, 11 x 14", single-layer, ink on printing paper

"Tradition, Type 2" 1st edition, 11 x 14", single-layer, ink on printing paper

"Fortune" 2nd Edition, 11 x 14", two-layer, ink on printing paper

These prints were made on the UNT's CVAD Manual Printing Press, and designs drawn and affixed to limestone slabs; at the time, I was exploring my heritage of being of Chinese-descent. The prints were done via lithography from which I drew the designs on a flat limestone surface, and used a chemical reaction process to affix the design on the stone. From there I used printing ink, rolled it on to the stone, and then utilized a printing press to affix the design on the paper. "Tradition" is a mono-print featuring two types of prints. The first type featured a mountain background while the second type replaced the background with a city-space juxtaposing the changes made to the landscape as the years go on. "Fortune" explores a staple element in Asian cultures. Carps and goldfish are said to be lucky fish that bring fortune to a household. The coins were made in the image of traditional Chinese metal currency. The outline was made using the same black ink found in "Tradition"; however, a second layer is added to this print by mixing yellow and orange to attain a golden hue.
