Charcoal Drawings

One of my earliest works drawn for Drawing 1, back when I was still working on my Associate of Arts. We were given images by our instructor, and then challenged to use light and shadow to create contours rather than bold lines to form shapes on the canvas. I picked charcoal as my medium since it gave me the widest range of value on the gray-scale spectrum, and allows for smooth transitions on organic forms. I recall that I used only three different types of charcoal, and a cleaning cloth to adjust the light and shadow values on these drawings.
